Original antique lithograph by Alexander Calder published in the legendary French art review Derrière Le Miroir, edited by Aimé Maeght in Paris in 1968. This striking double-page composition is one of the original lithographs created by Calder for Derrière Le Miroir n°173. Printed by Arte under the supervision of Maeght Éditeur, the work perfectly captures Calder’s iconic visual language: floating biomorphic forms, bold black linear movement and vibrant areas of red, blue, orange and grey. Unlike later poster reproductions frequently seen on the market, this is an authentic period lithograph issued in 1968 – not a modern reproduction. Mone double – Anemone coronaria. From Fleurs Dessin. Le Grand Sculpteur -476 x 318 mm. Ole au coin inf. Rieur droit au niveau de la signature de Legrand. En 1800 Van Spaendonck fit paraitre une collection de 24 gravures, brillamment gravées par P. Le Grand, à la pointe-sèche. Fleurs dessinées d’après nature. Considérée comme l’une de ses oeuvres majeures. Ce fut le seul ensemble publié de son vivant. 1746 – 1822 Peintre et graveur d’origine néerlandaise installé en France, il est le premier peintre à avoir introduit dans un autre pays d’Europe la tradition de la peinture florale néerlandaise. Miniaturiste du Roi Louis XVI à 28 ans, professeur de peinture florale au Jardin des Plantes, il devint le peintre de la Reine Marie Antoinette. Après la Révolution, il obtient en 1793 la chaire d’iconographie naturelle au Muséum national d’histoire naturelle. En 1795 il est l’un des premiers Membres de l? Académie des Beaux Arts; il enseigna Redouté, le fameux peintre des Roses. Avec la technique du crachotis, qui ponctue de multiples petits points la plaque de cuivre, il a rendu visible la beauté des fleurs. On disait qu’en les voyant on pouvait presque les respirer.
